Mosquito coast & volcanoes 2003

Costa de la mosquitia, Honduras.

Canoe returning to a remote Garifuna village after picking up supplies from our cargo boat. No road link for a few hundred miles along this coast. Most important to them is fuel for running a generator to watch videos.

A good half days trek to get to this point.

Masaya Volcan, Nicaragua.

Human sacrifices were witnessed by the first Spanish missionaries. People being thrown alive into the red hot crater. The cross erected is supposed to neutralise the cravings of the volcano god, but, in the sulphurous clouds of gas locals still see the spirits of the dead writhing in torment.
